Living word for 27-April-2024. Scripture says, “When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” The sick man answered him, “Sir, I don’t have anyone to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up. While I’m trying to get there, someone else steps down ahead of me.” Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” The man immediately became well, and he picked up his mat and started walking. Now that day was a Sabbath.”

No matter what or how terrible your situation might be, one encounter or meeting with Jesus can change your entire life and the rest becomes history. We continue with out theme question that goes, “have you met Jesus? Or have you encountered Jesus?” The scripture today teaches in John 5:1-9 that, “Later on, there was another festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem is a pool called Bethesda in Hebrew. It has five colonnades, and under these a large number of sick people were lying—blind, lame, or paralyzed—waiting for the movement of the water.”

We are told about a pool called Bethesda that had five porches and under these a large number of sick were laid here and this pool had special significance because, “At certain times an angel of the Lord would go down into the pool and stir up the water, and whoever stepped in first after the stirring of the water was healed of whatever disease he had.” God in his infinite mercy designed a system where an angel at certain times would cme and stir the waters and whoever stepped in first after this would be healed. This was a good thing for people to get healed but the only challenge was the timing, it happened once in a while and one had to be sharp and first to step it to be healed. Basically it was survival for the fittest for one to get healed.

It so happened that Jesus was passing by and someone’s life was about to be changed. Someone was about to meet Jesus and his condition was going to be history. Scripture says, “One particular man was there who had been ill for 38 years.” This man had a condition that had so far lasted 38 full years and in all these years he had failed to enter the pool first so he could be healed but Jesus was about to change this narrative. It adds, “When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” Jesus, by divine revelation knew that this man had been there for a long time, 38 years and paused a question to him asking it he wanted to get well. You would think a simple yes or no would suffice but he had an entire explanation.

It says, “The sick man answered him, “Sir, I don’t have anyone to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up. While I’m trying to get there, someone else steps down ahead of me.” For the years this man had been in this condition, no one had mercy on him or took pitty on him to put him into the pool to get healed. He didn’t know that Jesus was going to overturn his condition. It adds, “Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” Jesus told him eight words and these words carried the power to heal his condition without going into the water, without waiting for the storing of the waters. So Jesus has the power to turn around your situation or condition despite the odds being against you. It adds and says, “The man immediately became well, and he picked up his mat and started walking. Now that day was a Sabbath.”

Fellow child of God, one encounter with Jesus turned this mans situation around in an instant. He who had been six for 38 years was now healed simply by meeting Jesus. Remember Jesus knew his condition before this man even knew who Jesus was so Jesus knows you more than you even know yourself. Submit to him, obey his words and instructions and He will turn around your life. His name is above all names, call upon him and he will turn around your life.

Be blessed
