Living word for 16-April-2024. Scripture says, “Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”*Jesus, our Lord and savior, while walked this earth mentioned some really controversial statements that people of his times misunderstood and even to this day.* It takes careful study and meditation to draw the revelation behind them so we learn from them. *For example the scripture today teaches and says in Luke 14:34-35 that, “Now, salt is good. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can its flavor be restored?”* So first and foremost like Jesus said, “salt is good.” This means salt is for a purpose which purpose is good for example, salt can be used to add taste to food, we all know food without salt can be hard to eat. Salt can be used to preserve food, you sprinkle some salt on it to prevent it from going bad. Salt can also be used to heal fresh wounds and thus helps the healing process. Even when added to water it can be used to wash wounds, these are all good things. *However in this scripture Jesus adds and says, “But if the salt should lose its taste, how can its flavor be restored?”* So its very possible for salt to lose its taste, the next question should be how does this salt loose its taste? When its stored for a very long time without being used, when its stored in a bad place let’s say where its hit by rain and its components washed away. So salt looses taste when its contaminated or when some of its original components are separated from it. From this backdrop let’s remember that we as believers are the salt of the earth, we are to add value, provide taste, preserve we are also to heal. However its possible for a believer to loose his or her saltiness. To loose his or her goodness because as we learnt that salt is good.A believer can be contaminated because bad company destroys good character, a beleiver can loose his prayer zeal, fasting zeal, preaching zeal and even church fellowship zeal and they seem not to have meaning anymore this is more like loosing saltiness. A believer can stop doing good deeds and instead do the opposite, they can loose saltiness when they start engaging in sin and iniquity, sin washes off the good components from a believer therefore we should avoid sinning. *This is why Jesus warned and said, “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”* Some looses saltiness and their love waxes cold.So the other question is how can its flavor be restored? The quicker we draw answers to this the better for our spiritual lives because *it adds and says, “It’s suitable neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. People throw it away. Let the person who has ears to hear, listen!”* So when salt looses its saltiness its useless, its not useful to the soil or even for the manure pile. Its instead thrown away. So the first step in restoring ones flavor since we are the salt of the earth is by first of all humbling down and repenting of our sins and iniquity because the psalmist said if we hide iniquity in our hearts the Lord will not hear our prayers.Next we need to be obedient doers of the word of God, finding out the will.of God and following in that direction. Following the guidance of the still small voice of the holy spirit. Basically doing what Jesus said we should do because this way we shall increase our saltiness and thus be good vessels that are unto honor on this earth. *Fellow child of God, Jesus said we are the salt of the earth and today we have learned that salt is good but there is a danger of loosing ones saltiness and becoming useless. We were all created with a purpose on this earth, we all have a particular mandate to fulfill. Jesus went about doing good so we are also to go around doing good since salt is good. We should try our best not to loose our saltiness in this journey of salvation.*Be blessed✍🏾✍🏾✍🏾X: @nellyville217Facebook: Nellyville Wanyama📧Email: wanyanelson217@gmail.com
